Planning for the future while preserving the past
Why do we need to form a community group?
The town of Saylesville serves as an anchor for a community of
homesteads, farms and housing developments that consider themselves
all part of the beautiful "Saylesville area". Several generations of
Saylesville families still live in the area and graciously continue to
welcome new residents into it's community.
Many homes and structures along Saylesville Rd. have stood the test of
time for over 150 years and still convey small town pride and country
peacefulness. "Downtown" Saylesville is a Nationally Registered Historic
District and several other homes on Saylesville Rd.also are on the
Historic Registry. As a result of this small town country allure several
newer homes have been added to this area thus expanding the
community but not destroying the charm.
We feel the greatest threat to the Saylesville area is not a lack of
cultural interest, community support or even new housing developments
but rather "cut-through traffic". With a state highway system (59 and 83)
but a mile away we ask - Why destroy a lovely, existing and growing
community in the interest of saving trucks and speeding commuters a
minute? Believe it or not it really is about a minute difference.
It just makes sense to make it more appealing for "through-traffic" to take
the state highways and to reduce the speeding and trucking on
Saylesville Rd. There are also economic reasons to keep all of
Saylesville road safe and scenic- people want to live near "country" with
a small town quaint feel . With all of the recent development near West
High School and more to come, the city too should be concerned about
this traffic.
Here they are trying to create a desirable place to live and yet have high
speed, under patrolled (due to lack of officers) highways segregating
the developments from the high school, parks and each other. Again,
why aren't we making it safer for all by encouraging through-traffic to
take the state highways? As the density of an area increases the county
highways need to have reduced speed limits or they just become
barriers for a community.
Saylesville Rd. offers scenic vistas, open native landscapes, recreational
and residential opportunities. It has a strong agricultural foundation and
is historically significant. There are ways to address increasing traffic
without destroying an existing community. This beautiful area should be
celebrated and protected by the County, the Town of Genesee, the
Town of Waukesha and the City of Waukesha not dominated by
automobiles.

This website is here to allow interested parties an opportunity to voice their questions and concerns
regarding Saylesville Rd. and the future of the area.
Send us an e-mail and if you want we will put your input on the site. Otherwise, we will take your input and
put it to good use as we also plan on creating a survey and drafting a petition to present to the appropriate
department heads and town / county officials.
The written material is the opinion of various residents and does not necessarily reflect the opinion of the Town of Genesee,
Town of Waukesha, the city of Waukesha or Waukesha county.
