County Board Meeting Update

We had a great turn out at the County Board Meeting January 8th 2009.  Thank
you to all of you who signed the petition, attended the meeting and/or spoke
during the public comment time.
Thank you to the County Board for it's willingness to hear our concerns.
A special thank you to William Mitchell for his support and clear
understanding of the issues.    We also appreciate the board members who
spoke in favor of the proposed and amended ordinance- their wisdom will
serve Waukesha County well.  For County Board vote results click this link.

The results of the proposed ordinance were favorable.  We as a community
and the County Board as our representatives have successfully worked
together to change the current speeds between H (River Rd.) and STH59 to
35mph.  We have also been successful in lowering the current 55mph section
to 45mph.  Yeah!

Unfortunately, we will need to re-present the facts and information to the
Board for consideration regarding the 2 mile section between Woods Rd. and
STH83 (still will be 45mph). Some of the Board members did not understand
the importance from both the safety and community planning stand point and
did not have the necessary information to make an informed decision.

"It Takes a Village" to save a community- your time and support is what
makes the difference.  Thank you!
NEW Update :
Some of the  Proposed road configurations for the Waukesha county
bypass (HWYTT or bypass section from 59 to 94) may adversely
affect the Saylesville area.  Between the widening of state highway
83 basically stopping at X and the bypass connecting up at CountyX
(Saylesville Rd.) we feel that the traffic volumes and trucking will
only increase on Saylesville Rd.

We are trying to put together a statement from the Saylesville
Community Group about which of the proposed alternatives we feel
will help to protect the Saylesville Area from a safety, historic,
environmental, property value and quality of life standpoint.

Please go to this link
www.waukeshabypass.org  and click on public
involvement to see the proposed alternatives.

The
Pebble creek 2 and 4 lane alternatives and the Sunset/DT plus
the no-build
alternatives appear to be the only ones still being
considered.  We are interested in the possible intersection changes
to X and 59.  It appears as of now that the Pebble Creek alternatives
intersection may
help keep traffic mainly on Hwy59- which may help
to deter cut through and trucking traffic by adding the "effort" of
having to turn onto Saylesville rd. to cut through to 83.

Please review these and reply back to us at

or directly to the study team at charlie.webb@ch2m.com and
identify yourself as a Saylesville area resident or user of Saylesville
rd.

Older news but still relevant:
WIS 83 RECONSTRUCTION COUNTY NN TO WIS59- but the four lanes
stop at X- Why?
**You may still express your opinions on this project as you see it affects Saylesville Rd.

Our biggest concern is that the four lane expansion of STH 83 ends at
Saylesville Road further encouraging traffic to use Saylesville Rd. as a
short-cut instead of using HWY 59.  The current plan is to have a roundabout at
STH83 and X (Saylesville Rd.)
.  Yes, they do need to do some improvements to fix
the bad angle there, however, adding a turn lane and a median is really all that needs to
be done.  A roundabout or lights is unnecessary and very expensive.

Older info:
We had a nice discussion with the Town of Genesee Board on Monday June 11th.  A huge thank
you to all of the individuals that came in support of our cause.  The Town Board was sympathetic to
our concerns but also expressed that their hands are basically tied by the County highway
department.  They did offer to
once again write a letter asking for reduced speeds and a weight limit
and for some further traffic calming measures to be considered.  Better speed limit enforcement
was also requested.

A very well written article was in the Freeman on Tuesday, June 12th.  Thank you Freeman.  Also, an
article will appear in the Kettle Moraine Index on Thursday June 14th.
We are still collecting letters and signatures from those who support a speed
limit change from Woods Rd. to STH83.  This is a necessary piece to improve
community safety.  Realistic speeds on this road will also discourage use of
Saylesville Road as a short cut from State Hwy 83 to State Hwy 59.
Below is a copy of the petition that also explains the ordinance:

As a Waukesha County citizen, I support proposed County Ordinance 162-0-O89 which reduces the speed limit on County Hwy X
(Saylesville Rd.) to 35mph from State Hwy 59 to County Hwy H (River Rd) and reduces the 55 miles per hour section on County Hwy
X to 45mph.

As the proposed Ordinance is a great first step, I ask that the Waukesha Board go further and amend the proposed Ordinance to
include a 35 mile per hour speed zone beginning at Woods Road and extending West to Hwy 83.  There are numerous residences
with children and 10 intersecting roads on this section.  The increasing amount of traffic, lack of adequate road shoulders, limited
sight lines, numerous driveways and bus stops, and proximity of home and play areas to the road makes Hwy X a dangerous area,
both during and after school hours.

In addition to serious safety concerns for residents and drivers on and around Saylesville Rd., there are also historical, cultural,
environmental, and quality of life considerations for the area.

Please consider my name and signature below as my request for a slower and safer community:
